Saab Key Programming
Saab cars manufactured from 1994 have an immobilizer that relies on coded keys. A new transponder is required to allow the addition of an additional key, as well as special programming. This is usually done at the dealer, using a specially-designed Tech2 diagnostic tool.
The issue is that it can be quite costly. This is why it is important to always have a spare key on hand.
Transponder key
The transponder key is a piece of hardware with an electronic chip that transmits a signal to the car when it is placed in the ignition. The car will then check the signal to see whether it matches that of the key. If the signals match, the car will open and start. This is a fantastic way to safeguard your car from theft.
Transponder keys are a common feature in automobiles, however you should be aware that they aren't as secure as classic keys made of metal. While the metal component of a traditional key could be cut and copied but a transponder key is protected by an electronic chip. This chip contains an individual code that is encoded into the car's system to identify it.
The car will recognize the Saab keyfob, and allow it to be turned on. The car can only recognize the key fob when it has a chip that is unmodified and programmed to match. Otherwise, the car would refuse to accept the key and will not start.
It is important to have a spare Saab key. This is especially true if you reside in a rural area that is home to many car thieves. The good thing is that you can find a replacement key to your Saab without needing to visit a dealership and pay the high costs that they charge. In the majority of cases, you can have an original key made on the spot for less than half the price of what you would pay at a dealer.
Wired key
Saab cars are usually supplied with two keys. If you only have one, it's best to acquire an additional key fob as soon as you can, because if you lose it, your car will require an entirely new CIM unit and the locking cylinders will need to be replaced. This can be costly, especially for used cars.
The next step is to connect the wires for columns and rows to your microcontroller. This is the most difficult component of the project and it will require a lot of soldering. There is no standardized way to accomplish this, but it's important to plan out the route you'll take and solder the columns and rows. There are 22 microcontroller wires and pins to connect to this keyboard. It has five rows and 17 columns.
Once the rows and columns are soldered, it's the time to connect them to key switches. Solder a diode to each key switch pin. This will protect the pins from current and prevent them from being cut off. The diode will only allow current to flow in one direction, and has a a black band visual indicator that indicates the direction current will flow.
A few of the tools that are available at auto parts storeslike the Autel MaxiIM IM608 PRO and IM508 -- may aid shop customers or DIY customers in certain cases replace keys in the program and restore lost immobilizer information, Sanabria says. The tools connect to OBD ports and guide the customer through each step which makes the process much easier than replacing the car's computer.
Jump-starting the battery
Most people keep a set in their trunks to jump-start a car in an emergency, however it might not be a good idea for vehicles that are newer. They have numerous computers and digital devices that communicate with one another. A voltage surge when a battery is connected to another one could cause damage to the parts making your car inoperable.
Start the vehicle you are using and allow it to run for approximately two minutes before connecting the cables to the battery that is not working. Attach the red clip on the positive terminal of the battery that is good. (It will say "POS" or "+".) Attach the other end to a clear, unpainted metal surface underneath the hood of the damaged vehicle. The engine block is a good alternative. The black cable is not to be connected to the negative terminal of the dead battery. This could result in sparks, which would ignite gasoline in the engine compartment.
Once saab replacement key programming are connected the vehicle you are not using and allow it to run for around five minutes before you disconnect the cables in reverse order. Remember that the battery on your Saab 9-3 is charged while you drive, so it could take a while for the battery to come back down again. You should consider purchasing another key fob as soon as possible. Replacing the one that works requires the installation and programming of a new computer chip.
Replacement Case
Saab owners usually only have one car key, and if that is lost, they'll be charged. The reason is that it's costly to buy a new key, and it involves replacing the CIM (Column Integration Module) or TWICE on older models, plus programming. In the event of theft, or any other catastrophe it is best to have a spare key. Even even if the key is "new" it won't work.
The dealer will charge you the highest dollars if you only have one working key. We can reset and reprogram the EEEPROM of your computer to make it ready to accept a replacement key without the need to replace the entire system. This could save you a significant amount of money. It's more affordable than waiting until you lose the sole key.
